Alignment of Audio and Lyrics

The goal of alignment is in essence to match the two representations of singing voice: the written lyrics and the music audio signal. Tracking lyrics in music audio is harder than tracking text in speech because, unlike speech, the singing voice is mixed with multiple instruments.
Possible applications are:

To automate the process of highlighting lyrics for streaming services or karaoke
To enhance easier song navigation for learning-to-sing apps
To automate the detection of a song segment that corresponds to a keyword or key phrase. For example, one can look for a singing voice segment with the phrase ‘high speed’ for a car commercial.
